This is comfort food at its finest with cheese galore and broccoli. It’s great as a hearty main dish or a side dish. Your family is going to love it. Great dinner to add to the dinner rotation.

To make it a complete meal, add a side of other steamed vegetables or fresh fruit.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups medium pasta shells
  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup half and half
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 3 cups broccoli florets, chopped
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • Kosher salt and ground pepper, to taste

Instructions
 

  • In a large stockpot, prepare pasta shells according to package instructions. Drain well. Set aside.
  • In a skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add garlic and onion. Stirring frequently until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Do not burn.
  • Whisk in flour, about 1 minute. Gradually add whole milk, half & half and Dijon mustard until thickened, about 4 minutes. If sauce is too thick, add 1/2 cup (or more) of whole milk. Season with kosher salt and ground pepper, to taste.
  • Add pasta, broccoli and sharp cheddar cheese. Stir until well combined, about 2-3 minutes.
