About The Design Foodie

Hey, I’m Ashlee!

My name is Ashlee Karren. I grew up on a dairy farm in northern Utah where I learned about dairy and food. I’m a farm girl at heart. As a child, I would watch and learn from my mom, sister, and grandmothers as they cooked delicious things. I developed this fascination with cooking.

After high school, I wanted to become a graphic designer. I went on to get a BFA degree in graphic design. I’ve been a designer for the last 16 years. I love every minute of it and enjoy cooking on the side.

I like to travel too. Traveling has taught me a lot about how to adapt designs and flavors from different cultures. Provides a new perspective.

I am obsessed with shrimp, cheesecake, Oreos, and anything savory. I like dark chocolate too.

Currently, I’m in my tenth year working full-time as an art director for a local institution.

I obtained my Professional Cook & Plant-Based Pro Certifications from Rouxbe Online Culinary School. This training was so valuable in teaching me about culinary arts and developing recipes. It’s exciting to learn another art medium.

Welcome to my site! Come join me on this culinary journey.

The Brand

Story of the Brand

In August 2015, my blog started as a hobby and passion project. My roommate and I had the idea to start cooking meals every weekend, and I would document what we made into some cookbooks. It ended up becoming a brand. Hello Yum Creative was born.

I’ve loved having Hello Yum Creative. It helped me start my culinary journey. It began as a hobby, and now it’s evolved into more than that. It’s time for something different.

After online culinary school, inspiration came regarding the creative direction and gaining a clear perspective on what I can offer you. The Design Foodie was created.

With The Design Foodie, I’ll be sharing culinary and creative content. It includes easy gourmet recipes and creative projects.

I loved working on this branding passion project. It makes me come alive! The idea of combining graphic design and culinary arts into one brand is a dream for me. I look forward to seeing what comes next. Come join me on this culinary journey.
